Organised labour and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, have achieved an agreement that ends their disagreement, allowing affected employees to resume work immediately.
This development was informed to all NLC and TUC affiliates in Abuja via a circular published on Tuesday.
The circular was jointly signed by the TUC Secretary-General, Mr Nuhu Toro, and the NLC’s Acting General Secretary, Mr Benson Upah.
According to the circular, the conclusion was reached following a conciliatory meeting between union representatives and the FCT minister.
Sen. Mohammed Bomoi, Chairman of the Senate Committee on the FCT, organised the meeting.
The document stated that negotiations began about 11:45 p.m. on Sunday and lasted until approximately 3:51 a.m. on Monday, after significant deliberation.
Organised labour stated that all issues highlighted by members of the Joint Unions Action Committee (JUAC) were thoroughly investigated during the meeting.
It also stated that the minister assured of “mutual respect” and vowed to continued participation on labor-related issues within the FCT.
According to the circular, both parties agreed that no worker would be victimised for engaging in the strike action.
It was also agreed that all pending cases before the National Industrial Court will be withdrawn immediately.
As a result, the NLC and TUC recommended that all impacted workers resume their tasks immediately.
The instruction affects all affiliates of both labour centers under the FCT Administration.
Labour leaders urged strict adherence to the directive in the interests of industrial peace and harmony, praising the outcome of the negotiations as a demonstration of good faith by all parties.
They emphasised that communication and solid pledges against victimisation were critical criteria for stopping the strike action.
The workers went on strike on January 19 due to unresolved issues, including welfare concerns and charges of high-handedness.
