The Green Future Party reported that INEC rejected their registration despite fulfilling all criteria

The Green Future Party (GDP) has charged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) with refusing its registration despite fulfilling all criteria.

Adefolaseye Adebayo, the Interim National Chairman of the party, made this claim during an interview on Arise Television on Monday.

GFP was among numerous political associations that sought registration with INEC during 2025-2026, including the All Democratic Alliance (ADA) and the Citizens Democratic Alliance (CDA).

As of February 2026, the GFP had not obtained final registration.

Adebayo stated, “INEC did not adhere to its own guidelines.” We fulfilled all criteria for party registration, underwent physical verification, and received commendations from INEC officials for our outstanding performance.

“However, after the mandated 60 days had passed, INEC asserted that we had not met the conditions we had already satisfied.”

I believe there is a political subtext. INEC provided criteria resembling a list. The stipulations required that the individuals constituting the party be Nigerian citizens, and that the party’s flag must not resemble the Nigerian flag, among various other criteria that we fulfilled.
