Former senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello stated that she joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) because its members were the only ones who maintained in touch with her throughout her more than 15-year absence from active politics.
Obasanjo revealed this while appearing on Channels Television’s Morning Brief on Friday.
The daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo stated that she had not been a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) since 2011, when she failed to win re-election to the Senate.
According to her, she attended a leadership programme at Harvard University before pursuing her PhD.
“I have not been an active member, or even a member, of the PDP since 2011. I don’t see it as leaving one group and joining another. I had no celebration.
“Also, when I was away, the folks that contacted me and spoke with me were all members of the APC. I do not believe anyone in the present PDP or ADC has communicated with me or enquired, ‘How are you doing?’
“So, for me, that was the main reason. Yes, it’s all politics, but politicians are still human.
“So it was a personal decision; individuals reached out to me and talked to me, not to lobby me, but simply to say, ‘We care about you, we like you, and we love you as a human being. “How are you doing?” she said.
