The inhabitants of numerous communities in the Dan-Musa and Matazu local government areas of Katsina State have allegedly been demanded to pay a levy of N5 million by armed robbers.
Among the impacted communities are Gidan Goge, Unguwar Tofa, and Mara Dangeza. The assailants reportedly threatened residents with attacks until they paid up by a certain date.
This comes after local stakeholders and the bandits negotiated a peace pact in November last year, according to Bakatsine, a security specialist in the North-West region who shared this information on X.
Because of the increasing danger, some families have fled their houses.
“In rural communities, extortion tactics are deepening insecurity, and residents are calling for urgent government and security intervention,” Bakatsine wrote.
