The Nigeria Police Force has announced a major operational success after raiding criminal hideouts and dismantling a terrorist group in Nguru, Aboh Mbaise LGA, Imo State, recovering two General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs), one AK-47 rifle, a pump-action shotgun, 3,115 rounds of ammunition, surveillance drones, and other incriminating items.
According to a press statement issued by DCP Anthony Placid Okon, Public Relations Officer at Force Headquarters in Abuja, the operation is part of the continuing nationwide campaign to combat violent extremism and destroy organised criminal networks across the federation.
He revealed that the Imo State Police Command carried out the operation using intelligence gleaned from a confessional statement given by one Ebube Uchenna Maduakolam, commonly known as Ebube Virus, a suspected terrorist affiliated with IPOB.
According to the Force spokeswoman, the suspect was one of three detained at the location and is presently in lawful custody. He provided the Force with crucial information about the group’s supply networks, personnel organization, and planned actions.
“A thorough search of the enclave yielded two General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs), 3,115 rounds of GPMG ammo, one AK-47 assault rifle, one pump-action shotgun, many surveillance drones, and Biafra cash in various denominations.
“The Inspector-General of Police congratulated the command’s operatives for their courage, professionalism, and tactical precision in carrying out the operation. The IGP stated that the discovery of this considerable arsenal considerably reduces the terrorist network’s operating capacity in the South-East region and deals a critical blow to their terror campaign.
Okon emphasised that the Nigeria Police Force is committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the safety of all Nigerian citizens.
