Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, former Kano State Governor, has reportedly threatened to leave the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) following the change of several Kwankwasiyya faction candidates in Kano.
The NDC was said to have replaced some candidates previously nominated by the Kwankwasiyya group in Kano State due to an alleged infringement of a power-sharing agreement contained in a document signed by Hon. Hussaini Isah Mairiga, the Kano State NDC Chairman.
According to the text, the adjustments were made to reflect a previous agreement between the incumbent NDC structure and the Kwankwasiyya group over the distribution of party positions and elective tickets.
The document was copied to the opposition party’s National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, Kwankwaso, and the NDC North-West Zonal Chairman.
Barrister Isma’il Idris Sani – Kumbotso; Nasiru Ali Ahmed – Nassarawa; Kabiru Ishaq Sa’id – Kano Municipal; Barrister Dayyabu Jamilu Ibrahim – Doguwa/Tudun Wada; Muhammad Hamisu Abubakar – Dawakin Tofa/Rimin Gado/Tofa; Ibrahim Bashir Bango – Sumaila/Takai; and Abdulmajid Isa Umar Mairigar Fata – G.
The Kano State House of Assembly tickets in Dala, Tarauni, Kumbotso, Ungogo, and Dawakin Kudu constituencies have also been adjusted.
The NDC said that there was a standing agreement for elective jobs and party offices to be divided 60-40, with the Kwankwasiyya faction obtaining 60% and the old party structure keeping 40%.
