During a security operation in Jos North Local Government Area, the Plateau State Police Command apprehended three individuals and seized a locally produced firearm.
The development was detailed in a post on X on Tuesday by security analyst Zagazola Makama, who regularly reports on security issues across the country.
According to the post, the incident occurred about 4:45 p.m. on Monday, when police officers assigned to the Gada-Biu Outstation apprehended the suspects.
“The three suspects were identified as Ibrahim Alhassan, 27, Kingsley Kadinan Deban, and one Johnson, whose surname is yet to be confirmed,” Makama said.
According to police sources, the suspects were riding a Bajaj motorcycle from Rukuba Road to Gada-Biu when the incident occurred.
According to the sources, the suspects allegedly fired a shot into the air near the Gada-Biu Catholic Church, prompting the attention of security personnel in the vicinity.
“The sound of the gunshot alerted our personnel, who immediately went after them and arrested the three suspects,” a source told us.
Following their arrest, a search was conducted, resulting in the discovery of a locally manufactured pistol as well as the motorbike they were riding.
The suspects are currently in police custody, and investigations are underway to uncover the purpose for their conduct.
Police officials also stated that attempts are underway to identify and apprehend other potential members of the organization, as well as recover additional firearms.
