Frank Leboeuf, a legend of France, has asserted that Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland may not secure the Ballon d’Or this year, as the accolade is not necessarily awarded to the best player.
The former Chelsea player believes Mbappe is well-positioned to win the individual award this season, if it is justly conferred, referencing his exceptional accomplishments for both club and country.
Leboeuf stated that the award is not conferred annually to the most outstanding player.
He stated to Goal, “I have no affinity for the Ballon d’Or, as it holds no significance for me.” It is not the most proficient player.
The Ballon d’Or is ostensibly awarded to the world’s premier player. I fervently desire Mbappe to secure the Ballon d’Or due to his exceptional prowess as a player.
“Currently, the primary contenders are those that are victorious.” Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland will have significant challenges.
“They must exert maximum effort, as it will be concluded by next season or the following one.”
Mbappe ranked seventh in the 2025 Ballon d’Or standings, one position down than his 2024 placement.
His highest placement in the race is the 2023 edition, where he secured third place behind Inter Miami captain Lionel Messi and Manchester City star Erling Haaland.
