Dr. Alex Otti, the Governor of Abia State, has urged members who have left the Labour Party for various reasons to return.
On Wednesday, the Governor, represented by Deputy Governor Ikechukwu Lekwachi Emetu, addressed a one-day high-level strategic multi-level stakeholders summit titled Reuniting the Labour Party Family: consolidating strength for long-term political impact at the party’s national Secretariat in Abuja.
The meeting was held in partnership with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).
The Governor stated that under Abia’s leadership, the state has demonstrated that the Labour Party is more than just an election platform; it is also a vehicle for purpose, governance, accountability, and people-centered development.
He added that gains in infrastructure renovation, institutional changes, physical discipline, and service delivery demonstrate that the party is capable of bringing this vision to the national level.
“However, we must recognise that sustained political success necessitates internal unity. Reuniting the party entails establishing trust, strengthening institutions, improving communication, and ensuring that every stakeholder, from the ward level to the national leadership, feels appreciated and heard.
“On the path to 2027, we must begin now to consolidate our structures, strengthen grassroots mobilisation and membership revalidation, form strategic alliances with progressive minds who share our vision, invest in youth and women’s participation as drivers of electoral success, promote internal democracy, transparency, and discipline, and effectively and consistently communicate our accomplishments to the people.”
“We must understand and remember that Abia State serves as an example for the rest of the country, and the Labour Party is the driving force behind its success. “We must remember that we are not alone,” he stated.
The governor stated that the conference must create actionable resolutions, not simply ideas.
“Let’s leave here with a clear strategy, defined responsibilities, and verifiable deadlines. Let us also pledge to resolving internal misunderstandings through dialogue rather than division,” he stated.
“At this point, we invite our brothers who lost throughout the litigations to join the Labour Party and start from fresh.
“The Labour Party was founded on the ideas of equity, justice, productivity, and social inclusion. If we stick to these ideals, no realignment or opposing plan can lessen our influence.”
