Traffic has been significantly interrupted along the Abuja-Keffi motorway after truck drivers blocked the roadway in protest of an alleged attack and detention of one of their colleagues.
According to eyewitness accounts, the incident involved a VIP convoy confronting a truck driver who allegedly failed to surrender the right of way.
The situation worsened, prompting claims of assault and the driver’s eventual arrest by security personnel.
In reaction, other truck drivers formed a barricade, closing both inbound and outbound lanes near Mararaba in Nasarawa State, thereby cutting off a key entry and departure route to Abuja.
The demonstration has left thousands of commuters stranded, with gridlock spanning several kilometres.
As of the time of this report, security officials had yet to publish an official statement on the situation.
