Chike, a teenager who purportedly came from Delta State to Lagos to visit a friend, was shot dead by suspected cultists in the Ikotun region of Lagos State.
According to public sources, the adolescent was out with a buddy to withdraw money from a Point-of-Sale (PoS) operator when they were confronted by a gang of young males.
It was determined that the incident occurred on Sunday.
Abiodun, an eyewitness who talked with us on Thursday, stated that the attackers approached the duo, engaged them briefly, and then opened fire at close range before fleeing the area.
“He was returning from a PoS shop, where he had gone to withdraw money with a companion, when some youths stopped them. They spoke briefly before one of them shot him,” Abiodun explained.
“He died on the scene, and the attackers fled immediately. “His friend was not hurt,” he said.
The witness also stated that the victim’s buddy escaped unharmed, although the incident generated panic among local people.
Photographs taken at the site showed the teenager laying unconscious shortly after the incident.
Meanwhile, an anti-cult advocacy platform indicated in a post on Monday that the death could be cult-related, claiming that the assailants requested items from the victim before shooting him.
According to the platform, the deceased, also known as “Ejanla,” lived in Asaba, Delta State, and had visited Ikotun to see a friend before the event.
According to the article, “He had just withdrawn money from a POS outlet with his friend’s brother when they were approached by some men.” Witnesses reported that the perpetrators screamed ‘Haba-Krier’ before and after shooting him.
It further claimed that the victim tried to handover his valuables, including cash and gold, but was nonetheless shot by the assailants, who then fled the area.
Attempts to contact the spokeswoman for the Lagos State Police Command, Abimbola Adebisi, were fruitless, since calls and texts sent to her phone had not been responded at the time of filing this report.
