The Oyo State Police Command has verified the kidnapping of an indeterminate number of students in the state.
says that students were abducted in the Ahoro-Esinele hamlet inside the Oriire Local Government Area on Friday.
A teacher was shot during the incident.
The Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, Olayinka Ayanlade, stated that the Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Olugbenga, has visited the village.
He stated that the commissioner has mandated an immediate investigation to elucidate the immediate and underlying reasons of the situation.
The statement indicated that the suspects, operating on motorbikes, concurrently assaulted Baptist Nursery and Primary School in Yawota, as well as Community Grammar School/L.A Primary School in Esiele.
The statement indicated that initial investigations show that the assailants, operating on motorcycles, concurrently attacked Baptist Nursery and Primary School in Yawota and Community Grammar School/L.A Primary School in Esiele, abducting several pupils, students, and staff members, including the Vice Principal, Mrs. Alamu Folawe.
It is essential to note that at the time of submitting this report, no pupil or student has been confirmed deceased as a result of the incident.
Regrettably, an Assistant Headmaster named Mr. Adesiyan was fatally injured during the assault. In a subsequent incident, an okada rider who allegedly resisted the assailants’ attempts to forcibly seize his motorcycle was shot dead.
The Command also learned that Community Grammar School, Esiele shares the same premises as L.A Primary School, Esiele.
The assailants, after kidnapping several victims, also seized a Toyota Corolla belonging to the abducted Vice Principal and subsequently incinerated the vehicle on the road going to the woodland.
