Claims that the Ebonyi State Government allocated ₦16 billion to operate its Abuja Liaison Office have been rejected by the government as unfounded and deceitful.
The administration characterised the accusation made by Chika Nwoba as “malicious, fictitious and deliberately misleading,” according to a statement released by Leo Ekene-Oketa, the Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media.
The aide claims that a 12-story structure in Abuja’s Central Business District was demolished in 2016 by the state administration, and that the land is owned by Ebonyi State.
In the 2026 budget, ₦16 billion is designated for the construction and renovation of state-owned property for the benefit of the people of Ebonyi, not for the administration of the Abuja Liaison Office, as was described.
The aide went on to say that the Abuja Liaison Office’s actual recurring spending has been around the same amount for a long time, with personnel and operational expenditures coming to around ₦77 million.
Governor Nwifuru’s continued dedication to openness, careful handling of public monies, and consistent infrastructure development throughout Ebonyi State was emphasised by Oketa, who reiterated the administration’s stance.
He begged people to trust verified official messages about government spending and initiatives and to ignore what he called false tales.
