Rematching the first game of the 2010 tournament, which finished in a draw, the two teams met again.
This time, though, the Mexicans were in charge of the match the second the referee blew his whistle.
Plus, they scored the game’s first goal in the opening ten minutes.
The goal was scored by Julián Quiñones in the 9th minute, and the lead was extended in the 67th minute by Raúl Jiménez.
South Africa’s squad played with nine players following two red cards, but the co-hosts were able to earn the win thanks to the goals.
All three points were won by Mexico, who also had Cesar Montes sent off in stoppage time.
