Hon. Gafar Oyebade, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagelu Local Government Area, Oyo State, has been hospitalised after allegedly being assaulted by a member of the House of Representatives representing Akinyele/Lagelu Federal Constituency, Hon. Olafisoye Akinmoyede.
Oyebade alleged he was assaulted by Akinmoyede, a party chieftain.
According to the victim, the event occurred on Monday inside the APC State Secretariat in Ibadan’s Oke Ado district.
Oyebade made these claims in a statement made accessible
In the statement, Oyebade claimed that he was summoned by the APC State Secretary, Hon. Fatai Adesina, to help resolve the party’s dispute over the recent local government congress in the region.
However, Oyebade claimed that the legislator and his associates descended on him. He claimed he was violently hurt, tormented, and beaten during the encounter.
He also stated that the matter has been reported to the Iyaganku State CID in Ibadan.
Oyebade claimed in the statement, “Save my soul. Hon. Fatai Adeshina, the State Secretary of the APC, welcomed me to the party secretariat this morning, April 20, 2026.
“When I arrived, I met Hon. Wasiu Olafisoye Akinmoyede, who represents the Akinyele/Lagelu Federal Constituency, along with Fatai Awoyoola and Wale Bello.
“The Secretary asked me to sit down, stating that the Lagelu local government congress list would be resolved once and for all.” I told him I couldn’t sit in the middle of this crowd without my leaders’ presence. Then the state chairman summoned us to his office. The meeting became so heated that he started beating me in front of the state officials.
“They all aided the scenario. He even threatened to kill me, claiming that I was attempting to seize the party from him. The matter has been reported to the Iyaganku State CID. I’m currently obtaining medical attention.”
However, when reached, Akinmoyede stated that while a meeting was conducted to address the issue in the local government area, there was no assault at the meeting.
Akinmoyede,via his Legislative Aide, Dr. Isiaq Akintunde, stated that no physical altercation or assault occurred during the meeting.
He stated, “No such occurrence occurred during a meeting called by the state chairman in his office.
“The gathering was intended to resolve a dispute regarding Mr. Gafar’s official role, as he claimed to be the party secretary despite records indicating he was the Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Lagelu Local Government APC.”
