Malam Umar Namadi, the governor of Jigawa State, has said that joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is like boarding Prophet Noah’s Ark.
Governor Namadi made the statement after meeting with Hon. Kabiru Ibrahim, the Minority Leader of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, who defected from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Prior to his defection, Hon. Kabiru Ibrahim, who represents Birnin Kudu Constituency, was the opposition PDP’s sole House of Assembly member.
Governor Namadi stated that in Jigawa, everybody interested in politics should join the APC.
“Today in Jigawa, if you want to be involved in politics and do not join the APC, you are wasting your time.
“Therefore, the APC resembles Prophet Noah’s Ark. Once it starts moving, if Allah helps you board, you must praise the Almighty for the opportunity to participate.
“We thank Allah for the tremendous successes He has continued to grant us through the overwhelming support we are receiving from everywhere,” he stated.
The governor told Hon. Ibrahim, “Your return marks the end of opposition in the Jigawa State House of Assembly.” No more opposition members. The whole state Assembly now supports the APC.”
Earlier, Hon. Kabiru Ibrahim stated that he joined the ruling APC because of its good manifesto and Governor Umar Namadi’s leadership style.
He stated that before defecting, he met with his supporters, who all agreed to join him, including some PDP ward and local government leaders.
He promised to do everything possible to assure the party’s victory in the upcoming general election.
Ahmad Garba, the party’s state chairman, informed the legislator and other defectors that they would have same opportunities as other APC members.
