The Department of State Service (DSS) detained Muhammad Abubakar, a 30-year-old accused gun courier, in Kano State.
The DSS paraded the suspect at its State Command in Kano, saying he was nabbed while on a mission to transfer four RPG tubes, three AK-47s, and two empty magazines to Funtua, Katsina State.
“He was apprehended in Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State following an intelligence tip-off.
“During interrogation, the suspect stated that he collected the materials from one Bello in the Maigatari border area of Jigawa state for subsequent delivery in the insecure area.
“The suspect confessed that he was to be settled, N450,000 upon delivery of the items, before he was arrested,” the DSS reported

The suspect, who claimed this was his first engagement, expressed sorry for the incident.
“I am from Mokwa, Niger State, where I transport travellers to Kano and back to Abuja or Mokwa.
“Recently, one Bello put pressure on me to help him smuggle some firearms from Maigatari.
“I didn’t know him; we simply communicated over the phone. That was our first meeting and my first involvement with him.
“I initially told him I wasn’t going, but after a week of mounting pressure, I went to him yesterday, and he pulled out the guns.”
“I was arrested on the way while transporting the guns to Funtua,” the suspect stated.
The suspect went on to say that he couldn’t recall the identity of the person to whom he was supposed to deliver the guns, but he was given their phone number.
“I understand the pistols are intended for robbery, but I was supposed to be captured in this situation.
“We agreed that he will pay me N450,000 upon delivery,” the suspect stated.
