Barrister Hazeem Gbolarumi, a former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, has emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) gubernatorial candidate in Oyo State for the 2027 general elections.
Gbolarumi rose to prominence during the state’s 33 local government elections.
The election was held on Sunday.
Mr Tolulope Awoniyi, Chairman of the PDP’s gubernatorial primary election in the state, made the announcement following the compilation of election results.
The results were compiled at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat in Ibadan on Sunday.
Officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), led by the Head of Department of Election and Party Monitoring, INEC Oyo State, Engineer Olugbenga Keshinro, as well as party members from throughout the state and security agents, watched the results collation.
Awoniyi announced the election results on Sunday evening, noting that Gbolarumi won with a total of 3,615 votes.
He stated that Barrister Beulah Adeoye received a total of 22 votes.
He noted that only two candidates ran in the race.
While speaking, Awoniyi stated, “There are 3,694 registered members.” The total number of accredited voters is 3,640.
“Total number of contestants’ scores: Barrister Hazeem Gbolarumi received 3,615 votes. Amofin Beulah Adeoye garnered 22 votes.
“Going by the results, by the power conferred on me as the Chairman of the PDP gubernatorial election in Oyo State, I hereby declare Barrister Hazeem Gbolarumi as the winner of the election, having scored the highest number of votes.”
