Some of the victims kidnapped along the Otukpo-Ogobia Road in Benue State have been liberated after gunmen released the driver, the corpse of an old woman, and one of her three children.
However, the abductors are still holding two of the siblings and demanding a ransom of N30 million for their release.
the family was on their way from Abuja to Oklenyi in Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State for their late mother’s burial when their vehicle broke down on the Otukpo-Ogobia Road. While stuck, they were reportedly ambushed and kidnapped by armed guys.
According to family members, the kidnappers later released the driver, the deceased woman’s body, and one of the siblings.
The woman’s remains have been brought to Okpoga, where burial ceremonies are already underway.
Despite their partial release, two of the siblings are still being held by the kidnappers.
According to family reports, the abductors have made contact and are seeking ₦30 million to release the other victims.
Relatives are claimed to be working feverishly to raise the ransom, while also pressing security authorities to step up efforts to rescue the detainees.
The revelation has left the family with mixed feelings, as they are pleased to have found their late mother’s body and can now bury her, but they are concerned about the fate of the two siblings who are still in captivity.
