The Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Ogun State branch elected Oladipupo Adebutu as its governorship candidate for the upcoming 2027 gubernatorial election.
Ariyo Afolabi, Chairman of the Election Committee and national representative, made the statement on Sunday in Abeokuta, Ogun State’s capital.
Afolabi stated that after collating results from the 236 wards throughout the state’s 20 local government areas, the only aspirant, Oladipupo Adebutu, emerged as the party’s governorship candidate.
“The Ogun State governorship electoral panel hereby declares Honourable Oladipupo Olatunde Adebutu as the winner and consensus candidate,” he said.
In his acceptance speech, Adebutu thanked all party leaders, stakeholders, and members for their trust in him.
He urged all members of the party to continue operating in a peaceful manner, emphasising that this is the only way to recapture the state.
Adebutu stated, “Fellow party members, I respectfully accept this call to serve with a great sense of duty, fully aware that the 2027 election is a must-win for us to make yet another historic statement.
“Our triumph is largely due to working tirelessly as one united party and people to persuade the electorate that we are a superior option to the failed APC administration.
“I would like to appeal to every member of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State to maintain the atmosphere of peaceful conduct that has led us to where we are today. Peaceful coexistence is the sole guarantee that we will regain Ogun State from the foolish APC government and its collaborators,” he said.
Also addressing, Ayodele Fayose, a two-term former governor of Ekiti State, congratulated Adebutu on his selection as the party’s candidate for Ogun State, remarking that the high turnout of party supporters reflected hope for the party.
Meanwhile, Abayomi Tella, the Ogun State PDP Chairman, stated that the moment for action had arrived and that the party had already commenced preparations.
Tella welcomed the gubernatorial candidate and other primary winners, saying their participation demonstrated a real commitment to the party.
