Sumner Sambo, Director of Politics at Arise News, has stated that Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization, WTO, is unwilling to quit her current job to become former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s running partner.
Sambo made the remark on Monday while appearing on The Morning Show, where he discussed current political speculation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to him, while Okonjo-Iweala may be considered for the position, she is unwilling to give up what he describes as a lucrative position at the WTO, where she is now serving a second term that extends until 2029.
He went on to say that she would be unlikely to leave a secure overseas job for a political contest in Nigeria, particularly one that he claims is still fraught with legal and political uncertainty.
He stated: “Well, from what I’ve heard, Ngozi Okonjo-Iwela, while she may be considered and all of that, is unwilling to quit a lucrative job as a DJ for the World Trade Organization to contemplate that.
“She’s informed them, which is understandable given that she only begun in September of last year and has a second term until 2029.
“So what will she be doing as a vice presidential candidate for a party that is still in court and facing legal challenges? I believe she already has a secure term there and would not consider the offer.
