The Kebbi State Police Command has refuted allegations that schools in the state have been closed owing to insecurity, calling the news untrue.
SP Bashir Usman, the command’s spokesperson, clarified the situation in a statement issued on Saturday in Birnin Kebbi in response to reports of school closures, kidnappings, and parental withdrawal of students.
According to him, there is no truth to the rumours, and academic activities are continuing as planned throughout the state.
According to Usman, pupils have recently resumed for the new term, and graduating students are securely appearing for the Senior School Certificate Examination, SSCE, in various centers around Kebbi.
He noted that the state’s school calendar is still overseen by the Ministry of Education and has not been altered due to security concerns.
The police spokeswoman added that security forces, in partnership with vigilante organisations, have continued to conduct intelligence-led operations around the state to keep the calm and safeguard civilians.
