The government stated that the closure was the result of alleged chronic violations of the Enugu State Gaming and Lottery Law.

According to reports, the Enugu State Gaming and Lotto Commission took out the enforcement operation in response to a court order granted by the High Court of Enugu State.

In a petition filed by the Enugu State Gaming and Lottery Commission against KC Gaming Networks on 6/54/2025, the High Court of Enugu State authorised the commission to seal the betting firm.

Speaking to reporters following the exercise, the Commission’s Executive Secretary, Prince Arinze Arum, stated that the closure was the result of the state’s repeated efforts to obtain compliance from the operator.

“We are here to enforce compliance with the Enugu State Gaming and Lottery Law.” We have had multiple discussions with KC Gaming Networks about their transgressions and regulatory violations,” Arum stated.

Arum stated that the corporation ignored many warnings, administrative notices, and entreaties from the commission, particularly about licence revalidation, outstanding fees, and other statutory requirements.

He further stated that the enforcement action resulted in a complete halt of Bet9ja’s operations in the state.
