The governor’s declaration of Gumel has put an end to months of speculation about a potential shift in the state’s APC ticket.

Speaking to a delegation from the Gumel Emirate at the Government House in Dutse, the governor stated that his decision was based on Gumel’s competence, professionalism, loyalty, and major contributions to the administration’s success.

He emphasised that the deputy governor has constantly proven devotion to the government’s development program, making him worthy of another chance to serve alongside him.

The governor’s ratification effectively ends considerable political speculation that he may replace his deputy ahead of the 2027 elections.

The suspicions were fanned in part by views that Gumel is a close political associate of former Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, who was not well-liked by the governor until a recent reconciliation.

Gumel responded by expressing heartfelt gratitude to Governor Namadi and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for placing their trust in him.

“I understand that there are many persons who are more qualified than I am for this position. However, in his wisdom, the Governor thought I was worthy of serving as his running mate. “This is a great honour and favour,” he stated.

He promised to be loyal and support the governor in achieving the administration’s developmental goals.

“I am grateful to the Governor and the party’s stakeholders for the opportunity. I shall continue to do my utmost to secure the success of this administration and the continuation of the state.”
