The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Plateau State branch, has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, of undermining Nigeria’s democracy through politically driven court procedures aimed at weakening opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Solomon Ndam, Plateau State Chairman of the NDC, made the claim on Tuesday while speaking to reporters at the party’s state headquarters in Jos, the state capital.
Ndam argued that the party is still lawfully registered with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, despite a recent Federal High Court decision in Lokoja, Kogi State.
According to him, the June 26, 2026 judgement was “illegal and organised,” and it was obtained by a group called as the Peace Movement Party, which he claims is neither a recognised political party nor a legally acknowledged organization.
“On June 29, our party filed an appeal against the verdict, coupled with a stay of execution and injunction, which were served on the INEC chairman. “The good news is that there is no court order directing the deregistration of the NDC,” he stated.
He said that INEC has already allowed the party access to its candidate nomination platform, allowing them to begin uploading candidates in accordance with the commission’s timeline.
“Our presidential candidate was posted yesterday, June 29. “We have until July 11 to upload National Assembly candidates, and July 17 for governorship and State House of Assembly candidates,” Ndam said.
