An Ekiti State High Court in Ado-Ekiti sentenced Oluwapelumi Adewale Ogundipe to three years in prison after he was found guilty of stealing after being charged with conspiracy and armed robbery.
The decision was rendered in Suit No. HAD/32C/2025, State vs. Ogundipe Oluwapelumi Adewale, before High Court 4.
Ogundipe was originally charged with conspiracy and armed robbery in connection with Alasi Kolawole.
The prosecution claimed that the convict and others conspired to rob the victim, which involves harsh penalties under Ekiti State law.
During the trial, the prosecution counsel, Kunle Sina Adeyemo Esq., Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions in Ekiti State, presented evidence in support of the accusations. After analysing the evidence and testimony, Justice A.A. Adeleye determined that the prosecution did not adequately demonstrate the charge of armed robbery.
However, Justice Adeleye determined that the evidence supported the lower charge of stealing. Based on this finding, the judge convicted Ogundipe and sentenced him to three years in jail.
Counsel A.O. Okeya Esq. represented the convict in court and defended him throughout the proceedings.
The decision builds on recent efforts by the Ekiti State Ministry of Justice to achieve convictions in criminal cases and establish accountability for acts committed within the state.
