The Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency of Kano State was represented by Muhammad Danjuma Hassan, a member of Nigeria’s House of Representatives who passed away at the age of 66 after a protracted illness.
Akin Rotimi, a spokesman for the House, confirmed his death, which had been rumoured to have happened on Friday evening.
The late lawmaker’s death was mourned by Rotimi, who praised his long career in politics and the invaluable contributions he made to the advancement of legislation.
“The House of Representatives, his constituents, and the nation at large are profoundly saddened by his passing,” Rotimi stated.”
As the Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary, Hassan held the position after being elected to the House in 2023 by the New Nigeria Peoples Party.
Many legislation passed by Nigeria throughout the years contain the signature of the late Rotimi, who was supposedly highly esteemed as a legislative counsel and legal draftsman in the country.
“His passing has bereaved Nigeria of a leading legislative counsel and legal draftsman, whose work greatly advanced constitutional processes and legislative development,” he continued.
Hassan worked his way up the ranks of the National Assembly administration to become Permanent Secretary before dabbling in partisan politics. Lawmakers praised his administrative background and institutional understanding, saying they improved policy monitoring and legislative debates.
Public Petitions, Aviation, Solid Minerals, Constitution Review, and Treaties, Protocols and Agreements were among the committees on which he served while he was a member of the House.
House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas offered his deepest sympathies to Hassan’s loved ones, fellow citizens, and the state of Kano State’s administration and people upon hearing of his passing.
According to Islamic rituals, Hassan’s burial is set for this coming Saturday.
“May his soul find eternal peace, and may his legacy live on,” Rotimi prayed.
