Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has sharply condemned the horrific attack by suspected armed herders on the peaceful residents of Mbalom in Gwer East Local Government Area.
The governor condemned the horrific conduct, calling it an affront to the state’s collective peace and security.
He extended heartfelt condolences to the families affected by the incident and told them that the government is firmly behind them at this difficult period.
Governor Alia expressed deep worry over the pattern of what looks to be planned and targeted attacks in portions of the state, emphasising that such acts of terror, while becoming hydra-headed in design, will not be tolerated.
He underlined his unflinching determination to battle and subjugate all forms of criminality that endanger the safety of Benue communities.
The governor praised security forces, particularly the Nigeria Police Force, for their prompt response and ongoing efforts, emphasising that they are on the trail of the offenders and will ensure their arrest and punishment.
He asked them to step up operations to prevent future occurrences and provide long-term relief to affected areas.
While acknowledging the challenges faced by these attacks, Governor Alia reminded the people of Benue State that his administration will not give up or leave anything to chance in its duty to protect lives and property.
He stressed that every necessary step is being taken to reinforce security architecture, improve intelligence collection, and engage with relevant parties to restore long-term peace.
While urging locals to be calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, he also asked them to continue providing security services with credible information that can help ongoing operations.
According to a statement issued by his spokesman, Tersoo Kula, Governor Alia stated that the Benue State government under his leadership is steadfast in its commitment to protecting its inhabitants and would not be deterred in its quest of peace, justice, and security for all.
