Umar Ardo, a former chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has stated that it was his idea to build the party for late President Muhammadu Buhari to contest in 2015.
Ardo denied in an interview with Arise Television on Tuesday that former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi made Buhari president.
According to him, no single person can claim to have elected someone president.
According to DAILY POST, Amaechi claimed to have fought every fight that led to Buhari’s win in the 2015 presidential election.
Ardo responded, “The concept of founding the APC for Buhari’s contest in 2015 was mine, not Amaechi’s.
“A single individual cannot claim to have produced someone president; it would take a vast number of people and groups, but every concept begins with a single person, and the idea to build the APC was mine.
“Before the 2011 general elections, Buhari stated that if he lost, he would not run again. He did lose.
“I personally approached him and asked him to contest again. I informed him that the reason he hadn’t won elections was because he had never campaigned outside of the North. You only need one zone in the South to win the election.
“You can only get the Southwest if you nominate incumbent President Bola Tinubu as Vice President. Tinubu ran for Vice President in 2011, but they instead brought in Pastor Tunde Bakare.
“With that, Tinubu went on and consulted with former President Goodluck Jonathan before supporting him.
“Even though Buhari had said he would not go to the tribunal, I asked him to go so as to keep his political flag flying.”
