Joleon Lescott, a former Manchester City defender, projected what would happen if Arsenal faced Barcelona in the Champions League semi-finals this season.
If both teams win their quarter-final matches against Sporting CP and Atletico Madrid, they will face off in the Champions League semi-finals.
Arsenal overcame Bayer Leverkusen in the Round of 16 to advance to the quarter-finals against Sporting CP, which will be held in April.
Barcelona, on the other hand, overcame Premier League side Newcastle United to advance to the quarter-finals against LaLiga rivals Atletico Madrid.
In an interview with TNT Sports, Lescott predicted that Arsenal would cause Barcelona a lot of ‘trouble’ if they met in the last four, similar to the 2006 Champions League final.
When asked about Barcelona’s chances of winning the Champions League this season, Lescott replied, “I wouldn’t say so just because of the way they defend.”
“I believe that a more compact squad, such as Arsenal, with the offensive talent that they possess, will pose significant issues for Barcelona because I believe their defensive line has weaknesses.
“But yes, when they play like this, especially as long as it is two legs, and how exciting they are and how dominant they are at home, they have got a chance.”
