The forward for the Super Eagles and Paris FC, Moses Simon, has spoken out about his rejection from several Premier League clubs, including Lyon, Fulham, Brighton, Tottenham, and Liverpool.
He made the confession when discussing his biggest professional regret, saying that he should have played better between 2016 and 2018 because he was so focused on getting a transfer.
In an exclusive interview with Urban Dwell Sport, the Nigerian winger—who is among the longest-serving players in the Super Eagles squad—mentioned this while reflecting on his professional trajectory, the mistakes he made, and the lessons he learnt.
Simon admitted to having one big regret and stated his intention to use this experience as a lesson for younger footballers when asked if he had any regrets despite his accomplishments and career at the highest level.
“Yes, I have,” he told Urban Dwell Sport. And I will impart this knowledge to the next generation of gamers. Regret on my part as a professional athlete.
I was so intent on completing a move that my form dropped between 2016 and 2018. Not only did Lyon, Fulham, Brighton, Tottenham, and Liverpool show interest in signing me, but so did Hull City and Fulham. In 2017, we played them in the Europa League. You can tell the difference between fact and fiction when you read about these topics in the news.
I failed miserably at transferring companies in my first year. I was supposed to join Liverpool the following year, but that never happened. Additionally, Brighton was a bust. I couldn’t help but wonder if the club or the agent was to blame. It doesn’t matter if I play or not, he said; I was trying to convince myself that.
I thought the club would find a way to sell me if I didn’t play. According to him, the club wanted 25 million after only one year, although they only wanted 1 million when they bought me.
