The Bauchi State Police Command has detained three suspects in connection with the alleged killing of a 27-year-old man following a clash during a naming ceremony in Dosi Hamlet, Bara Village, Kirfi Local Government Area.
SP Nafiu Habib, the command’s spokesperson, said in a statement on Wednesday that the suspects were arrested on charges of criminal conspiracy, disturbing the public peace, and culpable homicide.
According to Habib, the officer in charge of the Bara Police Outpost reported the event to the Kirfi Divisional Police Headquarters after an 80-year-old Dosi Hamlet resident filed a complaint on July 1.
According to the police, the incident started on June 25 at approximately 6:30 p.m. during a naming ceremony, when adolescents from Tudun Sullubawa Hamlet reportedly clashed with youths from Dosi Hamlet.
According to the allegation, the disagreement turned violent, with one Sani Abacha Alhaji Jabbi, 27, of Dosi Hamlet, allegedly being attacked with cutlasses.
“The victim was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Gombe, for medical treatment, where he was later certified dead by a medical doctor,” the statement said.
According to the police, investigators visited the location and documented evidence before initiating an investigation that resulted in the arrest of three suspects from Tudun Sullubawa Hamlet: Kano Alhaji Malam, 18, Ali Alhaji Malam, 17, and Shehu Alhaji Malam, 16.
