A Nigerian soldier who was kidnapped has escaped and arrived safely to a military base in Makurdi, Benue State.
This was revealed in a post on X by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security expert from Lake Chad.
Zagazola stated that the soldier, assigned to the 130 Battalion (Main), Baga, was kidnapped on June 27 while travelling on a welfare pass to the battalion’s Rear position in Ogoja, Cross River State.
He stated that at 11:53 a.m. on June 30, intelligence from the 401 Intelligence Cell in Makurdi indicated that the soldier had fled his captors and made his way to the 72 Special Forces Battalion in Makurdi.
According to him, the details of his escape were not immediately revealed.
According to the security expert, military authorities are preparing to transfer the soldier to the 130th Battalion (Rear) in Ogoja for debriefing, medical evaluation, and other administrative procedures.
“Investigations were ongoing to establish the circumstances of the abduction and identify those responsible,” he stated.
