Peter Obi, a former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, believes acts of lawlessness are not new to him.
Obi made the comment in a post on his verified X handle on Wednesday, following an attack on him and other African Democratic Congress (ADC) members in Edo State the day before.
He thanked Nigerians for their prayers, calls, and solidarity after the disaster.
“I am especially grateful for your support during this difficult time for the family of the respected elder and former Governor of Edo State, Chief John Oyegun, who has served Nigeria honourably in a variety of roles, as well as another former Governor, Professor Oserheimen Osunbor.
“Your assistance has reaffirmed my trust in our common humanity and our shared desire for a better Nigeria. My heartfelt gratitude is reflected in my renewed dedication to serving and strengthening our country.
“I’ve had previous experiences with lawlessness. Years ago, the violence and instability in Anambra informed my decision to run for governor of the state, believing that leadership must restore order, security, and public trust.
“Today, the growing lawlessness in our country demands that all men and women of goodwill step forward—not in fear, but with a sense of responsibility.” Plato warned us that the price good people pay for refusing to engage in government is to live under bad people’s tyranny.
“This time encourages Nigerians to be even more steadfast in electing leaders who are defined by competence, devotion, character, and compassion—leaders that prioritise the nation before themselves and service over power.
“Together, with courage and unity, we can build the peaceful, secure, and prosperous Nigeria our people deserve,” he penned.
