Sule Lamido, a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has reiterated his allegiance to the party, stating that he will not leave despite the party’s internal challenges.
Lamido stated this on Saturday during a PDP stakeholders’ conference in Dutse, Jigawa State, when party leaders gathered to discuss the party’s future amidst internal conflicts and mounting defections.
He chastised notable politicians who deserted and joined lesser parties.
“The PDP is my political home. It may have problems, but it is still my home. “I won’t abandon it for another party,” he said.
The former governor warned that departing the party due to its troubles is not the solution, equating it to abandoning one’s family in times of need.
“Leaving your home because it has challenges is not the solution,” he added.
Lamido further said that some politicians are aiming to control or “take over” smaller political platforms, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC), from its original creators.
“They left their big home and now want to take over smaller parties built by others,” he said, cautioning that such moves could jeopardise political integrity and party growth.
Lamido underlined that the PDP’s problems should be remedied through internal changes and collaborative responsibility rather than defections.
He encouraged party members to remain dedicated and collaborate to rebuild and develop the party from within.
He stated that unity and determination would help the party regain its power and legitimacy ahead of future elections.
He also urged party members to revalidate their party registration online and ensure voter registration for the 2027 general election.
