Yilwatda threatens political appointees to either mobilise for the APC or resign

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has cautioned political appointees in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet that they must actively support and mobilise for the party or resign their jobs.

Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, the party’s National Chairman, issued the warning on Wednesday in Abuja while meeting with members of the Progressive Local Government Chairmen’s Forum, which was chaired by Dr Mustafa Jibrin, Chairman of Niger State’s Chanchaga Local Government.

The forum briefed the APC chairman on its grassroots mobilisation efforts for the 2027 general election.

“You cannot hide behind the guise of being a technocrat to evade political responsibility. If you accept a political post, you must also fulfil your responsibilities as a politician,” he stated.

The APC chairman further stated that anyone who does not want to participate in politics should decline a political post in the first place.

The APC national chairman asked local government chairmen to monitor the political performance of government appointees in their communities and report those who are not supporting the party at the grassroots level.

According to him, council chairs are better positioned to determine whether political appointees are making real contributions to the party in their wards.

“You are aware of who is making political contributions at the grassroots level. An appointee may be working well in office, but there is no political presence in their district, which is a concern. “Anyone who accepts a political appointment must accept the responsibilities that come with it,” he stated.

Yilwatda emphasised that the APC’s success in the 2027 elections will be dependent on effective grassroots mobilising rather than administrative effectiveness alone.

He asked local government chairmen to identify areas where political appointees were underperforming, where the party needed to improve, and vulnerabilities that should be rectified to increase the APC’s chances of winning future elections.

“We will provide you with full support in your mobilisation efforts.
