APC denies participation in the killing of an Accord Party member in Osun

Members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Esa-Oke, Obokun Local Government Area, Osun State, have denied attempts to link the recent assassination of an Accord Party member, Ajayi Rogba, to Wole Oke, Director-General of the party’s campaign committee for the August 15 governorship election.

Ajayi, a community indigene, was reportedly slain by suspected thugs on Tuesday night.

During a condolence visit to the deceased’s family on Wednesday, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke purportedly claimed that the killing was carried out by APC thugs.

The governor also reportedly attacked Oke, a local House of Representatives member, while urging police to thoroughly investigate the event and bring those involved to justice.

However, at a news conference in Esa-Oke on Friday, Prof. Siji Olamiju, speaking on behalf of APC members in the area, urged journalists not to politicise the death of an Accord Party member.

Olamiju described attempts to use the tragedy for political gain as disrespectful to the mourning family and detrimental to the quest of justice.

“APC members in Ward 7, Esa-Oke, believe it is critical to counter the increasing attempts by some political actors to use this tragedy for party gain.

“We are particularly concerned that certain individuals have hastily linked this unfortunate incident to politics without allowing the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security agencies to conclude their investigations,” he stated.

According to him, justice can only be delivered by a fair and professional investigation, not speculation or politically motivated allegations.

“Justice can only be achieved through a thorough, impartial and professional investigation, not through speculation, political rhetoric or media trials,” he said.
