The All Progressives Congress Rivers State Assembly Screening Committee has screened 98 candidates for the party’s ticket to the State House of Assembly ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The screening took place on Saturday and Sunday in Port Harcourt.
Tanko Yamowa, Secretary of the Rivers State Assembly Screening Committee, spoke with press after the exercise and congratulated the aspirants for their orderly conduct during the procedure.
Yamowa stated that the exercise was peaceful and well-organised, despite earlier fears about potential problems during the screening.
According to him, the aspirants’ actions indicated unity within the APC in Rivers State.
He stated, “The aspirants or the people of Rivers conducted themselves in a very good manner.”
He said, “This was not what we expected, but they surprised us. We expected some obstacles, but no one has come here to foment disturbance since yesterday or today, proving that the APC is one family in Rivers State.”
