Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in 2023, has designated January 23 a “Day of Betrayal”.
Kwankwaso made the announcement in response to Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s decision to dump the NNPP.
the Kano governor officially resigned from the NNPP on Friday, ahead of his impending defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Kwankwaso addressed his team’s supporters in Kano, saying the day should be remembered as a day of treachery to raise global awareness.
He stated, “Today, as the head of this Movement, I designate January 23rd as Betrayal Day.
“We believe that day should be permanently recorded in history to ensure global awareness of betrayal and the breaking of trust.”
Kwankwaso had asked the governor to stay in the opposition party, arguing that the hard-fought mandate should not be turned over to his political adversaries.
