Nigeria is creating money, but poverty is increasing. – Baba-Ahmed

Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), has lambasted President Bola Tinubu’s administration, accusing it of adopting key programs without appropriate planning and failing to address Nigeria’s important concerns.

Speaking on Channel Television’s Politics. Baba-Ahmed claimed on Friday that the Federal Government did not conduct thorough assessments before beginning on critical economic reforms, including the elimination of gasoline subsidies.

According to him, key policy decisions should be preceded by thorough assessments of their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.

“You do not implement policies without first doing a SWOT analysis. According to Baba-Ahmed, the idea of reducing subsidies was not even mentioned in President Tinubu’s inaugural speech.

He claimed that the administration had failed to sufficiently prepare Nigerians on the consequences of the subsidy removal strategy.

“No government undertakes a policy measure of this magnitude without putting it through the most basic elements of a SWOT analysis,” he said.

The PRP chairman also denied that members of the opposition were attempting to overthrow the government through unconstitutional means, emphasising that any change in administration would only occur through the ballot box.

“We plan to depose the administration by voting them out of office. “That is the case,” he stated.

Baba-Ahmed also voiced unhappiness with President Tinubu’s performance, claiming that the President came into office with good political credentials but had failed to seize what he saw as a historic chance to address Nigeria’s long-standing problems.

“The President was fairly well-qualified when he took office. You would expect a man who is so ambitious and has stated, ‘It’s my time,’ to come to power and address some of the country’s most fundamental concerns, such as insecurity, high living costs, and corruption. “He did none of those things,” he explained.

He contended that, despite rising government revenues, ordinary Nigerians have continued to face deteriorating economic situations.

“Now we are here. Nigeria makes a lot of money, but poverty, instability, and corruption are all on the rise, according to Baba-Ahmed.

The PRP chairman continued by saying the Tinubu administration has failed to meet public expectations.

The Federal Government has continuously justified its economic reforms, arguing that measures such as eliminating fuel subsidies and reforming exchange rates are required to stabilise the economy and set the groundwork for long-term prosperity.
