The Bauchi State Police Command has detained Sayyadi Abubakar, a 58-year-old Nigerien national, for allegedly stealing rams in Bauchi.
The culprit, believed to be from Tahoua Town in Maradi State, Niger Republic, was apprehended on May 19, 2026, after police officers detained two vehicles on Gubi Road in Bauchi.
According to the command, the vehicles intercepted were a white Hummer bus with the registration number Delta WW-882 ZR and a dark ash Toyota Camry with the plate Bauchi NNG-293-AA, both of which were reportedly used to transport stolen animals.
According to preliminary investigations, the suspect allegedly colluded with one Alaji Ibrahim and four other accomplices, who are still at large, to take the rams from a place outside A.A. Kunya Filling Station on Murtala Mohammed Way in Bauchi.
The command further revealed that the criminal organization allegedly changes vehicle number plates to those of different states while conducting activities in several locations to avoid discovery.
The police stated that efforts were being made to apprehend the fleeing culprits, that the case was still being investigated, and that all those involved would face prosecution once the investigation was completed.
Sani-Omolori Aliyu, the state’s police commissioner, underlined the command’s commitment to combating criminal activity throughout the state.
He also urged locals to continue providing security services with timely and credible information to boost crime-fighting efforts.
