Someone posted a warning about the increasing insecurity on the route, claiming it was becoming worse, and he urged the government of Anambra State and security authorities to do something before more people die.

An armed robber allegedly ambushes motorists along the length of the motorway, a matter that has been brought up time and time again by residents of the Nawfia village, according to the source.

In an effort to reduce the frequency of the attacks, he recalled, the community had just completed a great environmental cleanup.

As part of the drill, they cut down trees and cleared areas of thick foliage that the crooks had supposedly used to block off parts of the road and trap unwary motorists.

“Residents have described the robbers’ actions as increasingly bold,” he added, adding that the neighbourhood had made measures to stop them.

Worries among drivers have been heightened by the latest incident, which was apparently caught on camera and is now making the rounds online; the attack claimed one life.

The informant pleaded with the authorities to swiftly step up highway surveillance, establish regular patrol teams, and eliminate criminal hideouts in the region.

One of the busiest roadways in the South-East, the Onitsha-Enugu Motorway, he emphasised, must not be left vulnerable to criminal elements.

Locals and commuters have pleaded with the government of Anambra State, law enforcement, and the military to act swiftly and in concert to restore faith in the system and ensure the safety of those who use it.

No statement regarding the occurrence had been released by the Anambra State Police Command at the time this report was being prepared.
