The Media Information Officer made this public in a statement.

Lt-Col Aliyu Danja, Operation FANSAN YAMMA’s Joint Task Force (North West), on Sunday.

According to Danja, the action began when Sector 2 forces got a distress call reporting that a group of approximately forty terrorists on motorcycles had attacked the neighbourhood.

His account is that a number of the terrorists picked up the villagers and planned to lead them into the bush, while a second group stayed on the village’s outskirts, armed with motorcycles.

He elaborated by saying that the terrorists were involved in a fierce firefight as soon as the military arrived, which caused them to run into the nearby jungle after abandoning the kidnapped victims. The swift involvement resulted in the successful rescue of all 48 citizens who had been taken.

Tragically, one innocent person was killed in the incident, while two others were wounded and taken to the General Hospital in Kaura Namoda for treatment.

In order to maintain control of the region and stop any additional attacks, troops launched vigorous patrols after the rescue operation.

Residents in the North West may rest assured that the steadfast commitment to protecting lives and property will continue, as the Theatre Command commends the professionalism and heroism of the troops for this successful operation.

The statement emphasised the importance of the public’s ongoing cooperation in supplying security authorities with reliable information in order to maintain the progress made in clearing the North West of terrorist elements.
