During a stop-and-search operation, Safer Highway Patrol officers apprehended two suspected offenders, but one suspect, Godknows Ifreke, fled.
The accused, Omini Ezeri, 46, and Chinedum Wagbara, 42, were apprehended on July 25, 2026, along the Agbarho-Warri route in Delta State.
Firearms, live ammo, a substance suspected of being cocaine, and other incriminating evidence were seized from the suspects.
SP Bright Edafe, Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the report in a statement from Warri.
He said, “The Delta State Police Command has recorded another significant operational success with the arrest of two suspected criminals and the recovery of firearms, live ammunition, suspected cocaine, and other incriminating exhibits during a stop-and-search operation carried out by operatives of the Safer Highway Patrol along the Agbarho–Warri Road on 25 July 2026.”
SP Edafe added that, “The suspects, Omini Ezeri (46) and Chinedum Wagbara (42), both residents of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, were intercepted while travelling in a grey Mercedes-Benz ML SUV with registration number AAA 604 JZ.”
According to him, “During preliminary interrogation, God Knows Ifreke, the third occupant of the vehicle, suddenly took to his heels and fled into a nearby swamp.”
“A thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of two locally fabricated Beretta pistols loaded with nine rounds of live ammunition, approximately 200 grams of a substance suspected to be cocaine, one walkie-talkie, one dagger, one grinder, and two sophisticated phones.”
SP Edafe further stated that “the suspects are in custody, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect.”
Meanwhile, CP Yemi Oyeniyi praised the operatives for their diligence and professionalism.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to making Delta State a hostile environment for criminals and anyone involved in illegal firearms possession or drug trafficking.
He urged the people to continue providing the Police with timely and credible information that will contribute in ongoing efforts to keep the state safe.
