Ten dissatisfied Kwara APC candidates petition President Tinubu over the imposition of Speaker Yakubu Danladi as governor candidate

Ten dissatisfied All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidates who took part in the recent Kwara State governorship primary election, which resulted in Engr. Yakubu Danladi Salihu, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, being named the party’s flag bearer for the 2027 general elections, have petitioned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over what they call his imposition on the party.

The petitioners urged the President to intervene in the contentious primary election or risk losing Kwara State in the 2027 general election.

They warned that if the current trend is allowed to continue, the party’s electoral success in future general elections will be jeopardized, as many stakeholders will be forced to seek alternative political platforms to realize their goals.

In a united letter submitted to the President and made available on Saturday, the unhappy candidates drew his attention to what they characterized as a serious and deteriorating situation in the party’s state chapter.

The letter stated in part: “While we celebrate your administration’s successes, we believe it is critical to call your immediate attention to the serious and deteriorating situation inside our party in Kwara State.

“We do so with profound respect, but also with a strong feeling of duty and concern for the APC’s future and the political legacy your leadership has helped shape in our state.

“Your Excellency will recall the historic Otoge movement that culminated in the APC’s monumental win in 2019.

“That triumph was the result of a broad coalition of stakeholders, political orientations, community leaders, party loyalists, and progressive forces unified by a common goal: to end political dominance and restore democratic inclusion in Kwara State.
