Aisha Yesufu, a rights activist and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) chieftain, accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Saturday of being oblivious to vote-buying and electoral malpractices during elections.
Yesufu responded to allegations of vote-buying in Ekiti State by saying that it should be decriminalized in Nigeria.
In a post on X, the activist stated that law-abiding Nigerians are victims of vote buying in Nigeria.
He wrote, “At this rate, vote buying should be decriminalized in Nigeria.” It makes no sense because it punishes those who follow the law!
“They do not engage in vote buying and are well-planned, whereas others buy votes and swagger into office. The @officialEFCC eagle is blindfolded during the election.
“Instead of politicians squandering money on campaigns, everyone should wait until Election Day and bargain.
“The highest bidder wins, and you save the money. “This nonsense has to stop.”
Meanwhile, charges of vote misconduct have surfaced in the state’s ongoing gubernatorial race.
Dare Bejide, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Ekiti State, accused vote-buying and money pooling in his polling unit, but police and INEC officials refused to comment.
