President Donald Trump says the US has halted plans for a big military strike against Iran after getting assurances that discussions on a broader agreement are nearing completion.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump stated that the US military was fully prepared to launch an attack on the Islamic Republic but decided to wait when Iran and numerous Middle Eastern countries requested additional time for diplomacy.

Trump stated that the proposed agreement would involve the immediate and total reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, as well as measures to eliminate Iran’s nuclear threat.

He stated that the decision to pause military action was made in the interest of world stability and to give negotiators a chance to finish the agreement.

Trump also indicated that Israel had agreed to back the decision to postpone any major military action while diplomatic talks are ongoing.

“The United States is ready if necessary, but we are giving peace a chance,” Trump added, hoping that talks would quickly reach an agreement.

Since tensions with Iran have risen, Trump has regularly threatened military action against Iranian targets, but has also halted such plans on multiple occasions after hinting that mediators had reported progress toward a negotiated settlement.
