Six professors at Kogi Polytechnic have been suspended amid claims of cultism; others

The administration of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has put six professors on administrative leave on suspicion of cultish activity, sex for marks, and the illegal sale of course materials.

John Onimisi, the institution’s public relations officer, made the announcement in a statement released on Sunday in Lokoja.

Six professors were placed on administrative leave on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, for selling course materials without permission; another professor was placed on administrative leave for alleged sexual harassment, according to the announcement.

This occurred as worries about sexual harassment, cult-related activities, and other types of institutional misconduct grew.

Cult activities were returned to college, and some professors were allegedly coercing female students into passing classes by offering financial or sexual favours in return.

Furthermore, it was claimed that some female students who came out with reports of sexual harassment faced intimidation rather than institutional assistance.

Claims surfaced that, despite prior attempts to prohibit them, cult groups were once again holding meetings on campus during the night.

Some other things that were said to have contributed to the lowering of campus discipline were the reinstitution of mandatory handout sales, a loosening of the institution’s clothing policy, and the enforcement of student identification cards.

The institution’s disciplinary committee is already looking into the charges, according to Onimisi, who was responding to the accusations.

He promised that whatever was necessary would be done according on how the probe turned out.
