Eta Mbora, a former House of Representatives member, has joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), joining a rising list of former federal MPs who have aligned with the party.
Mbora, who represented Calabar Municipality/Odukpani Federal Constituency in the 9th Assembly, announced his defection on Thursday in Calabar.
He linked his decision to the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) ongoing internal conflict, adding that the issue has continued to damage the party’s structure.
He confessed that quitting the PDP was a difficult decision, but it had become essential owing to recent events.
“I remain grateful to the PDP for the opportunities it afforded me to serve at the local government, state, and national levels,” he told journalists.
Mbora also congratulated his friends and allies for their long-standing dedication and asked them to join him in the ADC, particularly by taking part in the party’s ongoing registration and revalidation process in their respective wards.
His departure is part of a larger trend of political realignment in Cross River State ahead of the next election cycle.
Former governor Liyel Imoke and former senator Gershom Bassey have also joined the ADC.
Meanwhile, the party is planning a celebration rally in honour of Mbora and other new arrivals.
